	Promoting Environmental Awareness Over the last 50 years NASA's efforts to expand humanity's knowledge of itself in this Universe has led to stunning knowledge about our own Earth. NASA’s contributions to the environment include the following:
	NASA collaborates with the USDA and NOAA to understand seasonal variability and apply this knowledge to the $50 billion agriculture industry. NASA images of Earth can help urban planners improve the livability of neighborhoods by monitoring the ratio of developed and undeveloped land. NASA astronomers that detect and monitor near-Earth asteroids can help prevent a catastrophic impact by identifying potential threats early. Hydroponic, aeroponic, and other advanced farming techniques will provide clean, efficient, and rapid food production for both astronauts far from home and people in developing economies.
